Sports Commission Update

It is kind of the slow time of year for the BSC so there is not a lot to report to our members.  As you know we hosted the Great American Conference Men and Women’s Basketball Championships back in March and it was once again a huge success bringing in over $2 million dollars in economic impact to our community.  The committee and all of the volunteers keep making this a better event each year and we are looking forward the 2019 Championships.

We hosted the Bruin Kick Off Luncheon with our new head football coach and hope many of you were there to meet him.  Coach Lee Blankenship was our guest speaker and he gave an update on the Bruins outlook for the 2018 season.  If you have not met him, then you missed a great talk on coaching our young men.

We just finished our 2018 Bartlesville Sports Hall of Fame Gala.  Once again the selection committee did an outstanding job of recognizing deserving athletes who have passed through our community.  We celebrated Yogi York a BHS exceptional basketball player, The 1985 State Champion Relay Team, Mike Wise a BHS basketball and football player that went on to start for OU football. We also celebrated Cecil Epperley for his outstanding service to the young men’s basketball at BHS and Sam and Susie Barto for over 40 years of educating young gymnasts.

The BSC has worked diligently on upgrading our website.  You can always check in there (Bartlesvillesports.com) to learn more about what is going on and how you can participate.

Thank you for your support. Please contact any board member if you have ideas on how the BSC can better serve our community.
