Scott Martin

He was named to the 1967 Tulsa World and Daily Oklahoman All-State Football Teams as a quarterback, followed by 1968 All-State Basketball Teams by the Tulsa World and Oklahoma Journal, and ending his high school career as #1 Singles State Tennis Champion in the spring of 1968. At the University of Oklahoma, Martin was a two-sport letterman. He won the Big Eight Championship in #2 Singles in 1969 & 1970, #3 Singles in 1971 and #4 Singles in 1972. He partnered for the Big Eight Title in #1 Doubles in 1970, #2 Doubles in 1969, 1971 and 1972. Playing OU Basketball under Coach John McLeod, Martin was second in team scoring in 1969-70 with 12.4 pts per game and 1970-71 with 14.7 pts per game, and third in team scoring in 1971-72 with 13.4 pts per game. He was Academic All-Big 8 in 1972. He currently ranks 30th in OU’s All-Time Scoring List and missed just 1 game in his career. When he graduated, he was OU’s 7th leading scorer. Martin was named the country’s most outstanding player under 6 feet by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1972. He still ranks as the 7th best career free throw shooter at OU by percentage (.801). Martin participated in the 1972 Olympic Trials and received an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.
