Mike Wise

Mike is a 1985 Bartlesville High School graduate where he was a two-sport letterman. He was an all-state selection in football in 1984.  Mike went on to play at the University of Oklahoma from 1985 to 1990 under legendary head coach Barry Switzer for three seasons and Gary Gibbs for one.

Mike was quoted in the Daily Oklahoman on the Oklahoma Football Nice Guys List for the 80’s. Mike addressed his time at OU, saying: “It always has been and always will be an honor to play at this university. I’ve loved this place since I was a kid, and I’ve always dreamed of playing here. It’s kind of like a driver’s license. It’s a privilege. You don’t just get it, you earn it.”

He played on the offensive line during his career, primarily as a center.

“Mike Wise has been our most consistent offensive lineman,” said OU coach Gary Gibbs. “He’s really had a good season, and I’m very happy for Mike.” After Wise won OU’s prestigious Don Key, assistant head coach Merv Johnson said: “Mike got more out of his abilities than any player I have ever coached.”

OU’s team record was 49-10 with a National Championship in 1985 and four bowl games while Mike was a Sooner.
