1969 Col-Hi Wildcats Baseball Team
Under the leadership of head coach Bob Bruno, the Wildcats won 10 of their final 11 games, enjoying a late season roll that propelled them to a state championship. The team entered the postseason with a 9-7 mark on the year before heating up to earn its first appearance in the state tournament since 1960. By the time the state playoffs had arrived, Col-Hi had improved to 12-7, but its overall mark still paled in comparison to some seeming juggernauts such as Tulsa McLain (23-1) and Putnam City (23-8). In the regional tournament at Ponca City, the Wildcats held off Enid 2-1 to earn the right to play the host squad. Col-Hi then blanked Ponca City 1-0 to earn a berth in the state tournament. In the state tournament opener, the Wildcats chalked up yet another 1-0 victory, this time against Midwest City, which hosted the tourney and brought an impressive 23-14 overall record into it. The win propelled Col-Hi into the championship game against Putnam City (26-9). The Wildcats racked up 15 hits against the Pirates, and Jim Lee pitched impressively for the win as Col-Hi captured the 1969 state championship with a convincing 12-1 triumph.
